Large-scale police operation took place on Friday morning (12/12) in Crete as part of the investigation of a new case of illegal receipt of agricultural subsidies.
Searches were carried out in a number of premises by special units Greek Police (ΕΛ.ΑΣ.) in connection with a payment fraud case Organizations for the payment and control of agricultural subsidies (ΟΠΕΚΕΠΕ).
According to available information, at the moment 14 people were brought in for questioning. The operation is aimed at exposure of an organized groupwhich, according to investigators, includes 42 peopleof which 15 are considered key participants.
The investigation believes that the defendants in the case received subsidies on the basis false and fictitious statements. The scheme, according to sources, involved accountants, lawyers, and individual farmers.
The supposed organizer of the group is called chairman of an agricultural cooperativewhich is also trade unionist.
The period under investigation covers 2019–2025A total amount of illegally received subsidies is estimated at approximately 1.7 million euros.
