A world without sentimentality: Trump proposed ending the war “on the basis of ownership”

Donald Trump finally took off his diplomatic masks and called a spade a spade: His peace plan for Ukraine involves division of territories. Moreover, without complex euphemisms and talk about “values”.

“A peace agreement is difficult because you will divide the territory in a certain way. It’s like a very complicated real estate deal, but multiplied by a thousand“, Trump said.

In essence, we are talking about fixing military reality and formalizing it in the form of a political and economic deal. Whoever stands where gets it. The rest is proposed to be discussed later, diplomatically and without guarantees of results.

Trump also made it clear that Washington’s patience is running out. A meeting with European countries on Ukraine is planned for Saturday, but US participation in it remains in doubt.

“We will visit if we think there is a good chance. We don’t want to waste a lot of time“, he noted.

Trump confirmed that the United States is ready to conclude an agreement on security guarantees with Ukraine.

“It’s called a security agreement, in fact, they call it a security agreement. We would help. We would help with security, because I think that is a necessary factor in reaching an agreement,” the American president said.

What does the American plan include?

According to the latest version of the plan published by the Ukrainian publication “Mirror of the week”the package includes four documents – a multilateral agreement, a framework of security guarantees, US commitments to NATO and a separate US-Russian agreement.

If you remove the diplomatic language, the plan looks like this:

• Crimea, Lugansk and Donetsk regions assigned to Russia. Their status can only change diplomatically, that is, in no way.

• Ukrainian Armed Forces leave Donbass. A demilitarized zone is being created in the Donetsk region on the territory that is now controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Formally without troops, in fact – under the control of the Russian Federation.

• Zaporozhye and Kherson regions are fixed along the current line of contact.

• Russia withdraws troops from Kharkov, Sumy and Dnepropetrovsk regions.

• Zaporozhye NPP restarts under the control of an American operator. Electricity is divided in half: 50% to Ukraine, 50% to Russia.

• Ukraine does not join NATO. This is not fixed by Ukrainian law, but by the obligations of the Alliance itself not to expand.

• The number of Armed Forces is limited 800 thousand people.

• After the agreement is signed, Ukraine must undergo elections as soon as possible.

• The United States supports Ukraine’s entry into EU until 2027.

• A recovery fund is being created for $200 billionpart of the frozen Russian assets is used for this.

• $100 billion of Russian assets come under US control for joint US-Russian projects.

“The only opponent of the deal”

Trump openly stated that the main obstacle to the implementation of the plan remains Vladimir Zelensky.

“I thought we were very close to a deal with Russia. I thought we were very close to a deal with Ukraine. In fact, with the exception of President Zelensky, people really like the concept of the deal“, noted the US President.

Thus, the American logic is simple: either the conflict is fixed on current conditions, or responsibility for its continuation is assigned personally to Kyiv.

Trump’s plan is not about victory or justice. This is about closure of the conflictredistribution of assets and risks, as well as a return to large geo-economic transactions. And Ukraine in this structure is more the object of the agreement than its architect.
