After the election of the minister Kyryakos Pierrakakis for the post of chairman Eurogroup a reshuffle in the cabinet becomes virtually inevitable. New appointments begin immediately and are for a minimum of two and a half yearsand it will be almost impossible to combine them with the current workload without personnel changes.
Combining the position of Minister of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance and the head of Eurogroup means a sharp increase in responsibility Kyryakos Pierrakakis. That is why the government is increasingly talking about the need strengthening the economic headquarters and redistributing powersy.
The reshuffle is expected to affect not only the economic bloc. Among the first to be called into question was the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, where possible departure is increasingly being discussed Kostas Tsiaras. His positions are weakened against the background protracted conflict with peasants.
The main intrigue lies not so much in the changes themselves, but in when they take place. The most likely scenario is the beginning of the new year. However, the final decision is directly related to another criminal case that is being prepared European prosecutor’s office under the leadership Laura Kovesi.
This is a second case related to Illustration Προσανατολισμού και Εγγυήσεων (Organization for the payment and control of European agricultural subsidies – ΟΠΕΚΕΠΕ). According to available information, the materials may be politically sensitive and touch upon current government officials.
That’s why prime ministeraccording to sources, prefers to wait case receipts to parliament before making final personnel decisions. The logic is simple: changing ministers before new facts emerge means risking a second adjustment of the composition of the government, and in this matter almost all the ministers or their deputies were “messed up.”
At the moment, government circles have formed a list of figures who are considered practically untouchable. Among them is the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendiasmyself Kyriakos PierrakakisMinister of Environment and Energy Stavros PapastavrouMinister of Health Adonis Georgiadisas well as the heads of key departments in the inner block – from public safety to justice and digital governance.
At the same time, a return scenario is being discussed on the sidelines. Giorgos Gerapetritis V Megaro Maximo. In this case, his place in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may be taken by the Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hadzidakis. This option is associated, among other things, with its role in managing the crisis situation around Greek Post – ΕΛΤΑ.
So far, no decision has been made on this scenario, but the very fact of its discussion shows that the upcoming “leapfrog” will not be limited to spot replacements. We are talking about a deeper reconfiguration of the government to the new political and economic reality.
Nevertheless, the most vulnerable figure in the current configuration remains Kostas Tsiaras. His possible resignation is seen as a “figure sacrifice” and is an attempt to reduce social tensions and demonstrate the cabinet’s readiness to correct course.
Will it help?
