“Running Greece and keeping up with Emily in Paris?” — Lily Collins spoofed Mitsotakis on live TV

Sometimes pop culture says more about politics than any analytical report. This time the occasion was not a press conference or a summit, but an evening show in the USA.

On air The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon actress Lily Collins ironically commented on the old confession Kyriakos Mitsotakisaccording to which the Prime Minister of Greece relaxes in the evenings by watching the series Emily in Paris together with his wife Mareva Grabowski.

Fallon set the tone for the conversation by noting that “now world leaders are literally fighting over Emily in Paris“: Rome supposedly wants “lure” Emily into the new season, and Emmanuel Macronaccording to rumors, insists on her return to Paris.

Collins, without losing self-irony, called what was happening “European love triangle” – and immediately added Greece to this unexpected geopolitical series.

“And the Greek Prime Minister recently said that this is his wife’s favorite series. And that after a hard day he wants to come home and watch it with her,” – the actress recalled.

This was followed by a phrase that instantly spread across social networks: “I was like, what? Having a tough day at the office? Do you mean rule Greece? And after that you go home and watch Emily in Paris?

Context is, of course, important. Kyriakos Mitsotakis actually spoke about this in May 2023, while being a guest on the show The 2Night Show. At the time, he called the series “the ultimate way to relax.”

“I watch it with my wife. It amuses me a lot.” – the Prime Minister admitted, not suspecting that after a while it would become part of an American television show.

It is curious that the very next day after this confession the official account Netflix on the social network X reacted with an ironic publication, finally turning the words of the head of government into an element of global pop culture.

The result was a rare moment when the country’s prime minister EU found himself not in an economic or geopolitical context, but in the role of the hero of a light television joke. And, I must admit, the joke was a success.
