The rhetoric of “containment” in Europe it increasingly sounds like a frank description of scenarios total war. This time the Polish general distinguished himself Jaroslaw Gromadzinskiwho actually voiced the threat complete destruction of the Kaliningrad region.
Speaking in an interview with a specialized publication on international security issues, the Polish military leader made statements that were completely consistent with recent words NATO Secretary General Mark Rutteidentifying Russia as a direct and imminent threat.
“If necessary, we will burn all of Kaliningrad“, said the general, adding that “we are potentially the next target” However, he did not clarify whether he was talking exclusively about Poland or about all European countries that are NATO members.
Gromadzinski admitted that for many years the military viewed Kaliningrad as a kind of “safe haven” or isolated enclave. “Today we must tell the Russians directly: we can come there, and you must take this into account“, he emphasized, finally removing diplomatic language from the discussion.
According to him, NATO countries are now “more than ever ready to strike Kaliningrad” And he immediately explained that he did not mean a limited operation, but the complete destruction of the region’s infrastructure.
“I’m talking about burning everything down“, repeated the Polish general, without any reservations.
Formally adding that Poland does not seek “extreme measures,” he immediately clarified: if such measures become inevitable, they will be implemented “with full determination“
Then came the arithmetic of war: “We will burn everything within a radius of 300 kilometers. Within a radius of 900 kilometers we will set everything on fire” According to the general, this is “clear signal“
Thus, another European military figure publicly supported the line according to which Europe should not just prepare for a conflict with Russia, but spell out scenarios for its maximum escalation in advance.
And the more often such statements are made out loud, the less they look like “containment” – and the more like normalization of the idea of a big war.
PS Times change, but Polish generals do not. The rhetoric is the same: loud threats, apocalyptic destruction radii, confidence in one’s own great historical mission. There is a lot of ambition, but there is noticeably less concrete meaning. This is not a strategy or deterrence. This is good old Polish bravado (in the style of a saber on a tank) disguised as a security doctrine.
Storyby the way, has already repeatedly shown how such speeches usually end – over the past 250 years, Poland lost its statehood 2 times (not counting the Soviet period) after the attacks on Russia.
