Farmers who on Friday morning December 12blocked the central gate of the port Thessaloniki dozens of tractors and agricultural equipment, left the territory and returned to their checkpoints.
After about three hours at the entrance to the port, the protesters made a decision complete mobilizationhighlighting what she was wearing symbolic character.
As the farmers themselves reported, they left the action site an hour earlier than the originally planned time. This decision was taken in coordination with Thessaloniki traffic police and its leader, Paraskevi Papageorgopoulouand also in order not to create additional inconvenience for citizens returning from work.
There will be a meeting on Saturday Panhellenic Blockade Committeeat which farmers intend to determine their future position in connection with the invitation to a meeting sent by the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
“We will relieve congestion on the road and thank the traffic police for their cooperation. On Saturday we will meet with the national body and collectively decide what message we will send to the Prime Minister. We will convey to him our demands, which he claims he does not know about. If we see any “light at the end of the tunnel” and real problem solving begins, then we will collectively determine our answer,” – said the head of the blockade in the area Malgara, Kostas Anestidis.
At about 11:00, farmers moved to the city center from two opposite points – from the district Prasina Fanarya in the east and from Malgar in the west – and at approximately 11:30 they arrived at the port of Thessaloniki, lining up tractors in front of its main entrance. Representatives also supported the action trade union organizations of Thessaloniki.
According to ΕΛ.ΑΣ.at the gate Thessaloniki Port Organizations More than 100 tractors and agricultural machines, as well as over 1,000 farmers, livestock breeders, beekeepers and citizens gathered.
Throughout the entire action, cargo movement continued as usual through gates 15 and 16 of the port. The protest ended without incident, with participants emphasizing that their goal was purely peaceful demonstration.
