Wills go digital and are handed over to notaries: courts unload immediately


The Greek government is promoting the digitalization of notary services, which will finally unlock about 14,000 wills cases concerning the death of testators.

Publish wills through digital platform at notariesnot in courts of first instanceit will be possible in cases of death of testators that occurred before November 1, 2025when the special platform was introduced.

In practice this means that approximately 14,000 willswhich were filed by the heirs in courts of first instance across the country and often wait, sometimes up to a year, for these wills to be published so they can begin to settle their inheritance matterswill now be processed notaries immediately, within a maximum of one week.

Thus, those will also be unblocked willswhich are still waiting for publication, while generating income for states by paying the corresponding inheritance taxes.

Expanding the ability to publish all types wills at notaries provided for in the article of the bill entitled New National Development Programtransfer of the Authority for payment and control of community subsidies based on guidelines and guarantees to Independent State Revenue Administration (ΑΑΔΕ) and other provisions”which was submitted to parliament.
