Sololovyov called von der Leyen and Callas “terrorists”

Vladimir Solovyovone of the most famous Russian political commentators, sharply criticized the leadership European Union.

European Union response

The statements of the Russian commentator did not go unanswered. The representative of the European Commission on foreign policy called Solovyov’s words “unacceptable” and “politically motivated attacks aimed at undermining trust in European institutions.” Brussels emphasized that rhetoric of this kind is exclusively propaganda in nature and is intended for the domestic audience of Russia.

A statement from the EU press service notes: “The European Union operates exclusively within the framework of international law. “Charges of ‘terrorism’ are not only absurd, they are dangerous because they fuel a hostile atmosphere and interfere with any form of diplomatic dialogue.”

Kaya Callasthe Prime Minister of Estonia and one of the key figures in European policy towards Russia, conveyed through her representatives that such attacks are “symptomatic of the Kremlin’s information strategy” and are designed to demonstrate external pressure within the country.

Ursula von der Leyen did not make a separate statement, but the official representative of the European Commission emphasized that attacks against the head of the Commission “will not affect the unity of the EU on the issue of support for Ukraine and in future relations with Russia”.

Political tensions are rising

Solovyov’s statements are widely circulated in the Russian media, forming an image of the EU as a hostile bloc. Brussels, in turn, views such statements as part of an information campaign aimed at further deteriorating relations between the parties.

Experts note that such episodes reflect a deep crisis of trust between Russia and the European Union, and also demonstrate how toxic became public rhetoric during a period of large-scale political confrontation.
