Tragedy in Zakynthos: a pit bull killed a two-year-old boy

On Zakynthos tragedy occurred: a two-year-old boy died after he was bitten on the neck by a family pitbullattacking a child with extreme aggression. The incident occurred in the courtyard of a house in the area Agios Leontaswhen the child approached the dog tied under a tree.

According to ERTthe dog suddenly attacked the baby and inflicted fatal wounds on him. The parents, who had gone shopping for a while, returned and found their son already in critical condition. An older girl was the first to see the attack and called adults.

The child was immediately taken to Zakynthos Hospitalwhere the doctors did everything possible to save his life, but numerous wounds turned out to be incompatible with life.

There were reportedly more than twenty dogs on the property at the time of the incident. The family claims to have been actively caring for the abandoned animals. The father of the deceased child said that he had sheltered a pit bull that had previously been abandoned by hunters, and could not imagine that the rescued animal would cause a tragedy.

“I only lost him for 30 seconds,” the father says. “We have always rescued animals. But this dog tore my child apart. His sister saw everything, she screamed for us to come.” According to the man, hunters often dump dogs in nearby wooded areas, and the family picked up the animals to prevent them from dying.

The child’s uncle says that the two older children suffered a severe shock, and the parents are in a difficult emotional state. Doctors admitted that this was the first time they had seen such extensive damage on the baby’s body.

Local residents describe the family as animal-loving people and note that the mother rescued many dogs and found new homes for them. However, the investigation raises questions about why the aggressive dog was left chained in an area where children roamed freely, and whether the conditions in which the animals were kept were controlled.

Police arrested parents on charges of manslaughter by negligence. An investigation is underway to determine what exactly caused the attack and whether there were violations in keeping a large number of dogs on private property.
