Court on Rhodes sentenced two Greek citizens to six years in prison for raping a tourist from Norwaycommitted in the summer 2017.
According to available data, in the first instance, both defendants were found guilty and received seven years in prison each, with the sentence suspended. The court then took into account the mitigating circumstance of “previous honest life.” Restrictive measures were imposed on both: a ban on leaving the country and the obligation to report monthly to the police station at their place of residence.
To investigate the case, the Norwegian authorities sent a request for legal assistance to the Greek side.
According to the case file, the two accused took turns and then jointly raped the victim in a residential building in Rhodes July 30, 2017.
The woman, the mother of a minor child, indicated in her testimony that she came to the island on vacation with her friends. Before the incident described, as she admitted in court, she had voluntary intimate relationships with two other people.
The victim stated that the two defendants beat her, spat on her and forced her to have sexual intercourse, more than once, in a house outside the city of Rhodes. According to her, she was taken there by one of the men whom she met at night at the club: he was a member of a musical group that performed in this establishment.
Describing the events of that night, the woman said that she and her friend came to a famous nightclub in the city of Rhodes. There, an employee of the establishment approached her and began flirting with her. In the morning, when there were almost no visitors left in the club, she agreed to go for a car ride with him.
On the way, according to the victim, the man forced her to have oral sex and then took her to a house located in a place unknown to her. Already there, according to her, the second accused appeared.
According to the victim, both men took turns and then jointly raped her, acting with extreme cruelty.
For their part, the accused in court categorically denied all the charges brought against them.
