Tax liabilities due by the end of 2025

By the end of 2025, taxpayers in Greece must close total liabilitiesexceeding 12 billion euros. It’s like regular taxesand about a large set of declarations, the deadlines for which expire on December 31.

What obligations must be paid off by the end of the year?

The list of main payments includes income tax, real estate tax, VAT, as well as duties for 2026. At the same time, there are other important deadlines that require attention.

1. Workers and pensioners who received retro payments.
Citizens who received income related to previous years in 2024 are required to submit corrective declarations for each relevant period through the myAADE platform by December 31, 2025. After filing, a new notification is generated, and the tax is paid in a lump sum until the end of January 2025.

2. Covering “tekmirio” – living expenses and acquisition of property.
Monetary gifts from parents may be used to cover testing costs for 2025. Such declarations are submitted through the myProperty platform until the end of December 2025.

3. Responsibilities of heirs for those who died in 2024.
Heirs must file the deceased’s income tax returns manually with the competent tax authorities or KEFODE. Submission is allowed through an application “Τα Αιτήματά μου”, by mail or through a protocol.

4. Declarations for those who have changed their tax residence.
Citizens who moved their tax residence abroad in 2024 are required to submit a corresponding application by the end of 2025.

5. Declaration of non-use of transport.
Car owners can apply for Akinisia (not used) through the myCar platform. The deadline is also until December 31, 2025.

Payments due in December

By the end of December 2025 you must pay:

• 9th and 10th dose ENFIA;
• 6th and 7th dose of income tax;
• all planned amounts for current installment plans.

The deadline for paying fees for 2026 is December 31, 2025.
Extension is not provided.

The following fines will come into force on January 1, 2026:

• until January 31 – 25% of the amount;
• during February – 50%;
• from March 1 – a fine equal to the full cost of the duties.

Thus, December 2025 becomes a key month for fulfilling tax obligations, requiring citizens to pay maximum attention to the timing and correctness of filing documents.

For car owners, by the end of the year, you also need to pay road tax (Τέλη κυκλοφορίας)(and someone else also has insurance for the company), so many residents of Greece will have to make do no trip for Christmas holidaysand some and no gifts at all.
