A drunk driver was speeding at 230 km/h on the Athens-Lamia highway


Attica Traffic Directorate reported the detention of a driver who was moving along the highway Athens–Lamia at speed 230 km/h and at the same time turned out to be positive for alcohol.

The incident occurred as part of a special operation carried out from the early hours of 21 to the early hours of November 22.

According to police, units participated in the raid O.E.P.T.A. and local Trofaia departments. During the operation it was carried out 5,528 alcohol testsof which in 91 cases Driving while intoxicated was recorded. Three drivers were arrested for readings above 0.60 mg/l.

Particularly notable is the case of a driver who accelerated to 230 km/h with the allowed limit of 100 km/h. Police recorded the violation by radar and determined that the man was under the influence of alcohol. He was immediately detained.

As he emphasizes ΕΛ.ΑΣ.such targeted operations will continue “with the same intensity” to reduce the number of dangerous violations and prevent tragedies on the roads.

“As part of the targeted actions and road checks of the Attica Traffic Directorate to prevent driving under the influence of alcohol and to identify dangerous behavioral violations, a special operation was carried out from the early hours of 21 to the early hours of November 22, 2025.

5,528 breathalyzer tests were performed and 91 violations were detected. A driver was also detained who was driving on the New Athens-Lamia National Road at a speed of 230 km/h when the speed limit was 100 km/h, posing a threat to other road users, and whose breathalyzer test showed a positive result.

Inspections will continue with the same intensity.”
