The European Union is outraged: “We didn’t know about Trump’s plan”

In European capitals, irritation reigns again: as in the case of the Gaza settlement, European Union learned about something new American 28-point plan at the end of the war in Ukraine from leaks to the press.

According to several ministers, Brussels was not notified neither Washington nor Kyiv, although the consequences directly concern European security.

What is particularly puzzling is that, judging by media reports, the project was agreed upon in closed consultations between the United States and Russia. European politicians now demand participation And EUand Ukraine in any negotiations to end the war.

Reactions of European ministers

Head of European Diplomacy Kaya Callas stressed that any plan must be agreed upon with Kiev: “It will not work without the participation of Ukrainians and Europeans.” Polish minister Radoslaw Sikorski expressed himself even more harshly, noting that peace initiatives are welcome, but Europe does not intend to learn about them after the fact. He also warned that no proposals should limit Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.

The head of Eurodiplomacy, Kallas, said that Trump’s new peace plan for Ukraine will be discussed today by the foreign ministers of the EU countries: “Of course, now we will discuss the latest news. We Europeans have always advocated a long and just peace and welcome any efforts aimed at achieving it. But it is absolutely clear: for any plan to work, it must be agreed upon with Ukraine and Europe.

It is also important to understand that in this war there is one aggressor and one victim. We have not yet seen any concessions from Russia. If Moscow really wanted peace, it could have agreed to an unconditional ceasefire long ago.”

Head of Greek diplomacy Georgios Gerapetritis supported the idea of a ceasefire, but noted that Kyiv itself must decide what conditions are acceptable. The French and Danish ministers demanded an immediate truce as a starting point for any negotiations – a position that Moscow rejected.

Danish minister Lars Rasmussen added that it is important to understand whether you really Donald Trump supports the plan of his special envoy Steve Witkoff: “It is impossible to establish peace without the participation of Ukrainians and Europeans.”

Finance, frozen assets and “compensation loan”

At the meeting, the ministers also discuss the mechanism for limiting the “shadow Russian fleet” and the legal basis for creating loan compensationwhich must be secured by income from frozen Russian assets. The EU is trying to close Kyiv’s budget gap by 135 billion euros in the next two years.

Some countries support the idea of using the assets of the Russian Central Bank, others insist on bilateral assistance or issuing pan-European debt. Sweden called the compensation mechanism “a good start.”

The EU will traditionally take the blame provisions of the planand will try to do everything to prevent it from being implemented. The Kremlin understands this very well, so continue the war.
