Turkish C-130 transport plane crashed on the border of Georgia and Azerbaijan: 20 dead

The location of the wreckage was established in a remote mountainous area between Georgia And Azerbaijan. An official representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense confirmed that the aircraft with serial number 68-01609 was heading from Azerbaijan to Turkey and disappeared from radar shortly before entering Turkish airspace.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the country was suffering a “great loss,” adding: “We hope that we will come out of this incident with minimal losses. May Allah show mercy to our martyrs.” At the same time, the Turkish Minister of Internal Affairs Ali Yerlikaya reported that search and rescue operations continue with the assistance of the Georgian authorities.

Airplane C-130 Herculesbuilt by the company Lockheed Martinis used in more than 60 countries to transport personnel and equipment. Türkiye has operated these aircraft since the 1960s, including for operations in difficult weather and geographical conditions.

The causes of the tragedy remain unclear: versions are being considered technical malfunction and possible structural damage to the hull in the air. Experts note that such cases are rare, but not excluded in aircraft with a long service life.
