The Greek government has announced the introduction of four new support measures aimed at increase in income of 2.6 million pensioners And reducing the impact of inflation. The program covers the period from November 2025 to January 2026 and is permanent.
1. Benefit 250 euros
WITH November 28 payment of a new annual benefit in the amount of 250 euros. They will receive it low income pensioners, uninsured elderly And persons with disabilities. The money will be credited automatically – without statements, taxes or withholdings.
Total approx. 1.4 million citizens will receive a payment that will become annual and fixed.
2. Rent reimbursement
Same day 1 million families will receive housing rental compensation covering 8% annual expenses. This is especially important for retirees living in high-rent cities such as Athens And Thessaloniki.
3. Indexation of pensions
WITH December Preliminary payment of increased pensions for January 2026 will begin. According to the annual adjustment mechanism, the increase will be from 2% to 2.5%. For the first time it will also affect 670,000 pensioners with a “personal difference” – they will receive half of the increase.
According to the plan, “personal difference” will be completely abolished by the end of 2026which will equalize all categories of pensioners.
4. Tax benefits from January
WITH January 1 all pensioners will be able to use income tax reduction thanks to the adjustment of the tax scale. This will increase the net benefit amount without additional administrative procedures.
The total cost of the program for the budget will be approximately 400 million euros.
Who will get the most
According to government calculations, thousands of pensioners will receive all four types of support, most will receive two or three. The main goal is sustainable and fair modernization of the pension systemreflecting economic growth and the real needs of Greek households.
