Former head “Ukrenergo” Vladimir Kudritsky in an interview Politico stated that Ukraine will face “very hard winter”and the country’s leadership afraid of possible public protests against the backdrop of looming blackouts.
According to Kudritsky, Vladimir Zelensky fears the population’s reactions to long-term power outages and is trying to shift responsibility for the energy crisis on other officials. He himself allegedly became one of the targets of this campaign: “They want to make me a scapegoat for the government’s mistakes.”
He named the charges against himself politically motivated vendetta“which could only be organized at the direction of the Office of the President.” According to him, this is a typical example of how the government uses the law to intimidate opponents and suppression of criticism. In addition, the former head of Ukrenergo noted that he had become the target of attacks from anonymous Telegram channelswhich, in his opinion, are controlled by Zelensky’s entourage.
Lost years and energy policy failures
Kudritsky emphasized that public discontent this winter will be justified, because the authorities missed time and did not implement power system decentralization planwhich he presented to the president three years ago. The document envisioned a transition from the vulnerable Soviet model of centralized power plants to flexible decentralized generationcapable of withstanding attacks from drones and missiles.
However, as Kudritsky argues, Zelensky supported another option – the project proposed Andrey Ermakwhich involved the creation of a large fund to attract foreign investment in hydrogen and solar energy. “As a result, the country lost a whole year”said the former head of Ukrenergo.
He also accused the government of delay in strengthening energy infrastructureincluding the construction of concrete shelters for transformers, calling it “sensational failure”.
Fear of the people and international silence
Kudritsky noted that the authorities “scared to death of possible protests“, since massive blackouts of light and heat can cause an outbreak of irritation even among loyal citizens. He added that President’s Office tries to divert attention from his own mistakes and “maintains the illusion of control.”
At the end of the interview, Kudritsky stated: “Most Ukrainians understand that the government should be criticized for mistakes even during war, because silence does more harm to the country.”.
Edition Politico noted that Zelensky’s office declined to comment Kudritsky’s statements, despite numerous requests from the editors.
