Attica: 14 dead and more than 550 injured in road accidents in October

Heavy turned out to be the balance of road accidents in Attica for October: 14 people died and 554 were injured – 11 heavy and 543 lungs – in total 486 accidents.

According to Attica Traffic Police Directoratethe main causes of accidents are driving without due care and caution, violation of road signs and rules for crossing streets by pedestrians. The lack of protective helmets for motorcycle drivers and passengers has in many cases exacerbated the severity of injuries.

33,875 violations per month

During the same period, as part of targeted measures aimed at increasing the level of road safetypolice recorded 33,875 violationsof which 273 are classified as criminal offences.

Among them:

• 880 cases of driving while intoxicated (53 – criminal);
• 2,482 speed violations;
• 331 violations when driving through a red signal;
• 461 cases of using a mobile phone while driving;
• 1,420 violations for not wearing a seat belt;
• 1,865 – for driving without a protective helmet;
• 100 – for dangerous maneuvers on the road.

Attica Traffic Police Directorate emphasizes that systemic inspections and preventive measures remain a priority to reduce the number of accidents and casualties on the region’s roads.
