Owners must register elevators in the new register by November 30

To November 30 owners and managers are required to register elevators in the new state register. So far only 10% all devices.

Registration of elevators: deadline until the end of November

Owners and managers of buildings in Greece must November 30 register elevators in the new state register ανελκυστήρων. However, according to Ministry of Developmentonly about 10% elevators are included in the system – approximately 80,000 out of a possible 750-900 thousand.

Despite large fines – from 1,000 to 5,000 euros depending on the type of building – many people delay registration. The main reason, as experts note, is fear of legal liability and possible sanctions in case of accidents or violations of service rules.

Fear of responsibility and the “white strike”

The registration process is simple and free, taking just a few minutes on the platform elevator.mindev.gov.gr and does not require technical documents or certifications. However, many managers are afraid to indicate their ΑΦΜ (tax number), since this automatically makes them responsible for the technical condition of the elevator.

Chairman PΟΜΙΔA Stratos Paradias stated that in apartment buildings where administrators often change, it is optimal for registration to be carried out by elevator maintenance technicianbearing direct responsibility for their serviceability.

Meanwhile, some industry specialists arranged “white strike”, avoiding registering their properties so as not to reveal their client base or waste time without additional payment. As a result, the process has practically stalled.

Who has already been registered and what will happen next

At the moment, the register includes mainly elevators in private homes, hospitals and shopping centers. According to industry representatives, avoiding registration is only delaying the inevitable: in the near future, all elevators will be included in the system Electronic building passportwhich will make accounting mandatory.

After the campaign is completed, each elevator will be assigned unique identification numberwhich will allow the state to monitor the technical condition, carry out prevention and increase the level of safety of citizens.

Amount of fines

Penalties for failure to register will be:

  • 1,000 euros – for residential buildings;
  • 2,500 euros — for mixed-use buildings;
  • 5,000 euros — for public and administrative buildings.

Experts warn: ignoring registration can lead not only to fines, but also to blocking the operation of the elevator until the requirements of the law are met.
