The grandmother of the deceased child said in an interview: “It’s impossible to forget. When I held him and shouted “run, save the child,” time seemed to stand still. The road to the hospital seemed like an eternity. I thought I would have time to save him. Since then my body has been trembling from shock.”.

The grandfather, who was also injured in the accident, added: “I can’t bring my grandson back, but I want him to be acquitted. We all raised him together and were around him every day. And someone drank, got on the motorcycle and took it from my hands. Our family is destroyed”.

Eyewitness testimony

The driver of another scooter, who witnessed the tragedy, said: “I was driving along Jasonu Street when a bike rushed past me at great speed, making dangerous maneuvers. He overtook a car on the right, turned sharply to the left and hit a man crossing the road.”.

According to an eyewitness, the motorcycle was moving at such a speed that it seemed that the driver did not control the controls. After the impact, the bike continued to move for several meters before falling onto the road.

Investigation and public reaction

The police continue to investigate the case, and the family of the deceased child insists maximum punishment the culprit. The surveillance video became the main evidence in the case and caused a strong public outcry in Greece.
