From the beginning of November Greek police begins to implement a large-scale plan called “ΕΝΤΟΣ”aimed at strengthening control in areas where camps and settlements are located Roma.
These are regions where the crime rate remains consistently high.
At the first stage, more than 300 police — 100 of them will be deployed in Atticathe rest in key areas across the country. Plans also include the participation of Roma representatives themselves as police officers and the creation of a corps of 50 intermediarieswhich will act as links between communities and authorities.
Main areas of operation:
- Western Attica – 100 policemen: Acharnes (Avliza, Agia Sotira), Ano Liosia, Zephyr, Aspropyrgos (Nea-Zoe, Neoctista), Vliho-Megaraand also Mandra. Additional forces will be directed to Gerakas And Buy-Coropiuwhere scams involving “imaginary road accidents” involving minors are recorded.
- Corinthia — 50 policemen: action is planned in settlements Examilia And Zeugolatio. New teams are being created ΔΙΑΣ.
- Argolis – 30 policemen: main zone – Nea Kio.
- Laconia – one group ΟΠΚΕ in the area Eurotas.
- Achaia – one group ΟΠΚΕ and two groups ΔΙΑΣ in the municipality Western Achaiawhere criminal networks for the sale of counterfeit goods operate.
- Messinia – three new groups ΟΠΚΕ: in areas Kalamata, Messini And Filiatra.
- Boeotia – one group ΟΠΚΕ in the settlement Piri at Thebeswhere attacks on motorists have become more frequent. An additional group is also planned in the area Kharavgi near Chalkis.
- Imathia — 25 police officers working in Alexandria And Potismena. Three teams of eight people each are created with the appointment of coordinating officers.
In second phase The ΕΝΤΟΣ project will include additional regions where the activity of Roma criminal groups is lower, but requires monitoring. Among them – Iraklia-Serrón, Tyrnavos And Farsala.
According to analysts, this a very ambitious but difficult to implement projectwhich will be a test for ΕΛ.ΑΣ. and will show whether a combination of military and humanitarian approaches is possible in working with Roma communities.
Like with the Indians

A month ago Minister Hρυσοchoidis stated that the strategy resembles 19th century US tactics against Indians: “The police will live and operate inside the camps.”
A radical experiment is being prepared in Greece: For the first time, the police will have permanent bases directly inside the Roma camps. This was stated by the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Khoisosaidisemphasizing that the goal is “put an end to the anomalous situation of lawlessness.”
The minister compared the practice to 19th-century U.S. tactics in which cavalry were stationed on Indian reservations. The organizer of those plans was General George Custer, who tragically died along with his detachment at the Battle of the Little Bighorn, attacking a force of 5-10 thousand Sioux warriors. “We hope the Greek option doesn’t lead to another Little Bighorn.”commentators note.
According to Chrysosaidis, “the new units will be combat units, they will be stationed in the camps themselves and will be subordinate to the Greek FBI”. The plan must be implemented within one and a half months.
The minister clarified: “Police will patrol neighborhoods and ghettos daily. The message is clear: there are no more places where the law does not apply.”.
Chrysosaidis emphasized that tolerance for lawlessness is over: “Such tolerance has existed for years in Greece, and to me it is inexplicable. It’s time to stop it”.
