What Lekkas says about the earthquake
According to the president of the OASP, professor of geology Efthimios Lekkasthe earthquake had the same epicenter, southwest of Istanbul, as the magnitude 6 earthquake that occurred on August 10. As he explains, the vibrations come from the same set of faults and are not related to the Anatolian Fault.
There is no particular cause for concern in Greece; it remains to be seen whether damage was caused, given that the earthquake was superficial as the depth of the source was less than ten kilometers.
According to the Lesbos website stonisi.gr, the Turkey earthquake was particularly felt in both the town of Mytilene and the island’s villages.
There are no reports of casualties or injuries
Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu said: “I extend my best wishes to all citizens affected by the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Sidirgi, Balıkesir and was felt in the surrounding provinces. We are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with all relevant authorities. At the moment, there have been no reports of negative events in the departments of our ministry. May God protect our country and our people from all disasters.”
Izmir Governor Suleiman Elban stated that at the moment no negative consequences have been recorded in Izmir: “At the moment, no negative consequences have been recorded, and search work in the region continues without interruption. All our groups are in a state of readiness”. Elban wished “get well soon” to all those affected by the earthquake and added: “May God protect our country and our people from all disasters.”
