They returned three years later: the Russians entered the Liman, fighting on the outskirts

The situation near Liman is getting worse: Ukrainian troops report growing pressure in the city, located in the Donetsk region about 107 km north of Donetsk. According to incoming data, significant Russian forces are forming “pincers” from the eastern direction; battles were noted on the outskirts of Vostochny.

A number of sources interpret what is happening as part of a broader offensive phase in which Moscow seeks to complete the capture of nine key cities to secure a “minimum” of objectives: the dual region of Donbass (Donetsk and Luhansk), as well as the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The list includes Kherson, Pokrovsk, Mirnograd, Kupyansk, Seversk, Volchansk, Konstantinovka, Izyum and Liman.

It is noted that if Russian troops regain control of the Liman railway infrastructure, one of the country’s largest hubs, this will allow them to maintain a high pace of operations in the area and regain the territories lost in the fall of 2022. Capturing the node will complicate the supply of defense Seversk and will speed up the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces, while simultaneously reducing the logistics leverage from the Severodonetsk And Soledara.

These supply lines are critical on the approaches to Raisins, Slavyansk And Kramatorsk. In a number of directions (Pokrovsk, Mirnograd, Kupyansk, Volchansk) the front has been moved close to the city limits; For some of them, a possible decline is predicted in the coming months. For others (Kherson, Seversk, Konstantinovka, Liman), the timing is estimated until the end of spring.

According to Russian channels, the group in the area reaches up to 90,000 military personnel, and units have already been spotted on the eastern approaches to the city. The Ukrainian General Staff calls the area east of Liman a “gray zone” with regular enemy activity in recent days.

The Ukrainian side declares the occupation of the settlement Torskoye near Liman and records drone activity in the sector.

Note on the map: black lines are existing railways; red – current battle zones; yellow – branches that the Russian Federation can quickly restore once control is established; green – sections of the iron network under the control of Russian forces.
