New report “Ήλιος” for August shows a detailed portrait of a Greek pensioner. The average age is from 66 to 80 years, the majority are men living in Attica And Central Macedonia. The main source of income is the basic pension in the range 500–1000 euros.
According to the report, 41.21% pensions exceed €1,000, while six out of ten are below this level. Average basic pension — 844 eurosA additional – near 196 euros. The average total income, taking into account all categories of payments (by age, disability, loss of a breadwinner) is 1.014 euros.
The age distribution is as follows: 25.96% pensioners over 81 years old, 36.01% – from 71 to 80, 35.04% – from 51 to 70, and only 1.4% – under 25 years old. The highest payments are received by pensioners aged 61 to 70 years.

Regionally in the lead Attica with 1,731,025 pensioners, followed by Central Macedonia (754.010), Thessaly (307.789) and Western Greece (263.666). It was only issued in August 27,215 new pensions for a total of 15.4 million euros, and almost 90 million euros arrears on previously delayed pensions.
The number of pensioners increased by 3,583 people over the month, and compared to August 2024 – by 14,263. Highest average income – 1.132 euros — received by citizens aged 61–65 years. Among 66-70 year olds the figure is slightly lower – about 1,103 euros.

Conclusion: Most Greek pensioners live on a moderate income, and the system is still characterized by high levels of inequality and demographic aging. More than half of pensioners earn less than €1,000, making them particularly vulnerable to rising prices and economic fluctuations.
