IN social networks there was a real stir about photos of a mysterious manfilmed next to police officers at the entrance to Louvre museum shortly after the loud robbery of a collection of imperial jewelry.
The photo, taken a few hours after the crime, shows three police officers in blue uniforms standing near a silver car, blocking the entrance. On the right in the frame is a man in brown hat, black coat and vestwith an umbrella in hand. His image immediately reminded viewers of the hero of an old film noir.
Photo instantly went viral: Social media users wondered who this person was. Some suggested that he – detective following the investigationothers joked that “To solve the case, you don’t need him, but a real, unshaven detective with personal problems and a bottle of whiskey”.
Some commentators assured that the man’s figure looks too perfect – Maybe, created by artificial intelligence. Professor Matt Groh from Northwestern Universityan AI visualization specialist, noted that “the man looks too perfect to be real“
However Associated Press photographer Thibault Camuswho took the photo denied the speculation. He stated that the man was real passers-bywho have nothing to do with the investigation.
“I don’t know him. Just wanted to capture the moment – his old-fashioned style fit perfectly into the atmosphere of the Louvre, as if he came out of history itself“, explained the photographer.
The photo became a symbol of the shameful drama for France, reminding that even a random figure can become new internet myth in the era of AI and media overload.
