ΜΑΤ policeman commits suicide near unit headquarters

In Gudinot far from the unit headquarters ΜΑΤ (special police units for dispersing demonstrations), on Friday, October 24, one of the unit’s employees was found dead.

The body was found in a badminton court located next to the police base.

According to preliminary data, the man received gunshot wound to the head. Investigators are considering suicide as the main version of what happened.

According to reports, the police officer completed night duty and left the service in the morning, but never returned home. Relatives began looking for him, and a few hours later his body was found near MUΑΤ headquarters.

The deceased was about 50 years. He was married and had children. It is known that he performed duties security guard at the building GADA (Attica Police Headquarters) and lived in the area Eretriafrom where he regularly went to work in Athens.

The investigation into the tragic incident is being conducted under the control of investigative authorities. Weapons are being examined and video recordings from nearby cameras are being analyzed.

Police express their condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased. According to preliminary data, no signs of violent intervention were found.
