• Introduced sanctions against the Russian companies Rosneft and Lukoil and their subsidiaries.

The US Treasury said that any transactions involving these companies are prohibited for US citizens and legal entities, as well as for all transactions passing through the American financial system and threatens violators with secondary sanctions.

Trump on sanctions:

• I felt that the time had come. We’ve been waiting a long time
  At the same time, the US President is not sure that new sanctions against the Russian Federation will change Moscow’s resolve?‍♂️;
• I always felt that he wanted to take all of Ukraine, not part of it. But I think he’s a little more willing to negotiate now, and I think he’s ready to make a deal. Let’s see. Let’s see. We don’t want, we don’t want him to have it all
• It takes at least 6 months to learn how to use Tomahawks. The only way is for us to run them, but we won’t do that
• The US has the most nuclear weapons:
  Russia is in second place, China is in third by a wide margin, but they will catch up with us within 4-5 years. And we’re talking about de-escalation… And I think… we’ll bring China into the conversation

What Trump is Really Doing

Step n: Create information noise and hint at the possibility of transferring tomahawks, forcing the Russians to make a call and listen to their proposals
Step n+1: Having received a proposal with some kind of concessions regarding Alaska, promise the Russians that there will be no tomahawks and agree on further parallel steps
Step n+2: Convey the agreed proposal to Zelensky, but what if he accepts it. Record that the offer has been made.
Step n+3: Having received Zelensky’s refusal, turn on maximum rhetoric against the Russians and actions that look very menacing (especially for the West), but for the Russians do not represent anything particularly bad, simultaneously burying the topic of tomahawks, but pretending that you are doing everything possible to force Putin to get scared and retreat, fending off accusations of a “new Afghanistan” and all that.
Step n+4: Force EU also announce total sanctions of the Russian Federation and interrupt the supply of the remaining flows of cheap resources
Step n+5: Blame the EU on financing the conflict between the Russian Federation and Ukraine
Step n+6: Replace resource flows from the Russian Federation to the EU with our own
Step n+7: To lure all working but uncompetitive production from the EU to the United States
Step n+8: Free up resources and shift focus to containing China.
Step n+9: After resolving the conflict between the EU and the Russian Federation in one way or another, negotiate with the remaining parties according to the circumstances.

Putin’s answer:

• The United States is trying to put pressure on Russia with new sanctions, but not a single self-respecting country does anything under pressure.
• Russia and the United States have many areas for cooperation if the countries move from pressure to serious dialogue for the future.
• Putin on reports of strikes with long-range weapons deep into the Russian Federation: this is an attempt at escalation, in which case the response will be very serious and stunning.
• It would be a mistake to approach the Budapest summit without preparation.
• Budapest was proposed by the American side during a telephone conversation. Trump’s statement rather indicates a postponement of the meeting.
