Oil supplies from Russia to India continue

According to Andrey RudenkoNew Delhi continues import crude oil from Russiadespite Trump’s statement that he agreed to stop such purchases.

Supplies of crude oil from Russia to India will be carried out as usual, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko told TASS on Monday.

Rudenko’s comments came in the context of US President Donald Trump’s statement last week that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a telephone conversation between the two leaders, he “assured” him that India would stop buying Russian oil.

“Everything goes on” — Rudenko told TASS.

Indian Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal told reporters last week that he “doesn’t know” about any discussions between Modi and Trump regarding New Delhi’s purchases of Russian oil.

His comments came hours after India issued an official statement saying its main goal in energy trading – protecting the interests of consumers in an unstable energy market and that its import policy is guided solely by this goal.

Since 2022, India has significantly increased its oil imports from Russia.

Until the end of September, Russia remained India’s largest oil supplier, supplying about 1.6 million barrels per day, accounting for about a third of India’s crude imports, according to ship tracking data.

Indian private companies are taking advantage of lower Russian oil prices and exporting petroleum products to European markets.

In August, Trump announced a 25% tariff on imports from India as a penalty for the country’s purchases of Russian oil, which he said were helping Russia prolong the Ukrainian conflict.

Speaking on the sidelines of Russian Energy Week last week, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said he was confident that Russia’s energy cooperation with India would continue.
