French police authorities have questioned three inmates at Paris’ La Santé prison who allegedly threatened former French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
A video is circulating on social media showing three men threatening and taunting the 70-year-old former president as he enters prison, French television channels reported, citing prosecutors.
Presumably the visual material was taken by another prisoner.
The prosecutor’s office has already launched an investigation into the threats to life, and two mobile phones were also seized as part of the investigation.
Last Tuesday, Sarkozy began serving a five-year prison sentence handed down to him after he was found guilty of illegally financing his election campaign at the expense of Muammar Gaddafi.
The former president’s lawyer notes that he is being held in an isolated wing with special security.
At the same time, he clarifies that he does not receive any special treatment and has submitted a request for parole.
