Briefly: On the morning of October 19, a group of unknown people robbed the Louvre. The criminals managed to steal nine jewelry and escape. The incident occurred around 9:30 local time, shortly after the museum opened. French Foreign Minister Laurent Nunez blamed foreigners for the incident, clearly hinting at Russia.
More details: By data According to Le Parisien, four criminals approached the Louvre from the Seine on two TMax scooters. Using a ladder (construction work is currently underway in this place), the thieves climbed to one of the windows, broke it with sanding machines and entered the Apollo Gallery – the part of it where the treasures of the French monarchs are located.

After this, chaos began in the Louvre. The police tried to get inside through the side glass doors of the pyramid, but they were locked, local media write, citing eyewitnesses;
- it is alleged that in the museum people were knocking on the glass doors, trying to get out, but could not;
- the criminals completely hid their faces. They escaped on scooters;
- Nine of 23 items from Napoleon’s jewelry collection were stolen;
- For some reason, the robbers did not take the largest diamond from the collection and one of the most famous in the world – the Regent. It weighs over 140 carats;
- the criminals completely hid their faces. They escaped either by car or scooters;
- two exhibits have already been found. One of them is the crown of Empress Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III. She was broken;
The New York Times writes more about 5 itemsthe value of which the authorities described as “invaluable”:
- Empress Eugenie Tiara, set with 212 pearls, 1,998 diamonds and 992 diamonds;
- Decorative bow of Empress Eugenie, decorated with 2438 diamonds and 196 diamonds;
- Brooch “Empress Eugenie” 1855;
- one sapphire earring from a set worn by Queen Hortense, wife of Louis Bonaparte, and Queen Marie-Amélie, wife of Louis Philippe I.
- a necklace of emeralds and diamonds from Napoleon’s emerald wedding gift set, which he gave to Marie Louise, his second wife.
Thieves also tried to steal Empress Eugenie’s crownbut abandoned her on the street after security appeared. Probably because of this, the crown was noticeably damaged.
Le Parisien reports that another stolen item was found, without specifying which one.
No one was injured as a result of the incident. “We saw video recordings: they do not attack people, they calmly enter in four minutes, break windows, take the loot and leave. No violence, very professional.” – Dati said.
In the daring robbery of the Louvre on October 19 “foreigners” are to blamesaid French Foreign Minister Laurent Nunez. According to him, the robbers acted professionally, were equipped with special equipment, and also acted according to a well-developed plan.
Has the Louvre been robbed yet?
Yes. The most famous incident is considered to be the kidnapping “Mona Lisas” in 1911. Then museum worker Vincenzo Perugia quietly carried the painting out under his coat. She was found two years later in Florence – Vincenzo Perugia explained that he wanted to return her to Italy.
It is worth noting that most of the old exhibits of this museum (like its brother the British Museum) were stolen in different countries of the world and then sold and ended up in the Louvre. Because of this, the next step in society is ripe: now museums can be robbed and stolen with impunity. We will also hear from the thieves, who may be caught, that they are simply fighters against French colonialism, because all the gold and diamonds were mined by black slaves in Africa.
Reuters remindsthat earlier in 2025, the Louvre management asked the French government for urgent assistance to renovate the exhibition halls and ensure better preservation of works of art. Minister Rachida Dati, in turn, noted that the problem of museum security is not new for France. “For 40 years, little attention has been paid to the security of major museums, and two years ago the president of the Louvre asked the prefect of police to conduct a security review. Why? Because museums have to adapt to new forms of crime.” – she said.
Russia is to blame
A serious scandal is already rising in France: how did it happen that one of the most famous museums in the world was actually guarded so disgustingly? I have almost no doubt that they will try to use history against President Macron: they say, what a mess he has brought the country to! Well, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they announced that the “foreigners” were thieves FSB/GRU agentsor at least acted at the instigation of the Kremlin: they say, another malicious Russian intrigue against the Fifth Republic!
Former President of France Francois Hollande condemned on air to a local TV channel “a serious act, an attack on French heritage” pointing out that a number of the country’s museums have been burgled in recent weeks. Hollande said he does not rule out the possibility “foreign interference to destabilize the country.” Hollande said he does not rule out the possibility “foreign interference to destabilize the country.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if a Russian passport is found near the Louvre…
