The Greek Air Force carried out another successful rescue operation in the Aegean Sea. On Sunday, October 19, helicopter Super Puma Greek Air Force evacuated 65 year old Italian from a fishing boat located north of the island Astypalea.
According to Ministry of Defensethe alarm came from coast guardwho received a signal about the need for urgent medical attention. Male crew member “Eros B”felt a sharp deterioration in health during the flight.
The footage released shows an Air Force rescue worker rappelling onto the deck of a fishing boat that was drifting about five nautical miles north of Astypalaia. The operation took place under difficult conditions, but was completed without incident.
A few minutes later the patient was lifted aboard the helicopter and taken to Rhodes General Hospitalwhere he received the necessary medical care. According to doctors, the Italian’s condition is stable.
The incident became another example of the high readiness of the Greek rescue services and the coherence of actions between Air Force And Greek Coast Guard.
