A nurse administered the wrong chemotherapy drug to a cancer patient.

IN Larisa University Hospital new case recorded administering the wrong medication to the patient. This time the victim was a woman taking a course chemotherapy for cancer.

According to sources, the error was discovered already during the procedure – the nurse noticed a discrepancy between the medication and immediately informed the doctors. The treatment was interrupted, the patient was given medical assistance and transferred to another department for condition checks and additional analyzes.

According to doctors’ preliminary assessment, no complications are expected for the woman’s health. However, the hospital began urgent internal investigationto find out who exactly made the mistake and how the drug could have been substituted.

Of particular concern is the fact that the same chemotherapy drugintended for the victim, was entered incorrectly another cancer patient. This indicates a systemic failure in the work of medical personnel and the storage of medications.

According to representatives of medical trade unions, the situation with misadministration of drugs in public hospitals Greece is spiraling out of control. Despite a series of tragic incidents in recent months, when two patients died security protocols are still not properly enforced.

The Greek healthcare system is under pressure again as patients’ trust in hospitals is eroding and the consequences of negligence could be a matter of life and death.
