October 14, 2025 (which corresponds to October 1 according to the Julian calendar) the Orthodox Church celebrates Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This holiday is not one of the twelve, but it is one of the favorite Orthodox Slavic Churches.
On this day, believers remember the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God to those praying in the Blachernae Church in Constantinople in 910, when Saint Andrew the Fool and his disciple Epiphanius had a vision of the Intercession of the Mother of God.
According to some sources, Constantinople was besieged by Muslim Saracens, according to others – by the Rus (supporters of this version indicate that the event could have occurred in 860).
During the all-night vigil, the holy fool Andrew saw the Mother of God walking through the air, illuminated by light and surrounded by angels and saints. At first She prayed with tears for the Christians, and then she took off the veil from Her head and spread it over the people praying in the temple, protecting them from enemies visible and invisible.
A miraculous cover protected the city. The storm that arose scattered the ships of the enemies, saving the inhabitants of Constantinople from death.
