USA and Türkiye signed 20-year LNG contract: 70 billion cubic meters LNG By 2045 – but will the Americans have enough gas to fulfill promises? The scenes of the transaction are discussing the return of Ankara to the program F-35.
USA and Türkiye We entered into an agreement on the supply of American liquefied natural gas for a period of 20 years. This was announced by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Alparslan Bayractar, clarifying that the volume of supplies will be about 70 billion cubic meters.
Starting next year, Türkiye will begin to receive about 4 billion cubic meters of gas annually. Deliveries will be carried out from the terminals of the United States, as well as through gasification plants in Europe and North Africa. In parallel, Botaş signed an agreement with the company Woodsidewhich since 2030 will provide another 5.8 billion cubic meters of LNG.
According to Bayractar, transactions will increase the efficiency of Botaş in the world market and guarantee Ankara long -term, stable deliveries at predictable prices. This is officially submitted as part of the diversification strategy of gas sources in Turkey.
However, the main question remains – Where will the United States get so much gas? American capacities are limited, and judging by the number of signed contracts, “free” gas is not enough even for internal needs. So, the old scenario is not excluded: Washington will purchase raw materials from Russia and resell it as a “democratic gas” with its own margin.
Behind the scenes of an energy transaction A military theme is also being discussed. According to rumors in diplomatic circles, through this contract Trump and Erdogan are trying to resolve the issue of blocking supplies F-35 fighters. Earlier, Ankara was excluded from the program after the purchase of Russian S-400, which was actively facilitated by the Greek lobbyists in the congress. Now, the gas contract can become part of the “large package”: the United States is returning Turkey to defense orbit, and Ankara receives a chance to sit down at the F-35 negotiation table again.
In fact, we see Energy Barter: Gas billions in exchange for aircraft. And this decision directly affects the regional balance: if Türkiye is returning to the F-35 program, Greece risks losing its advantagesuffered through lobbying and blocking in Washington.
So far there is only one question: who will win from this transaction – Türkiye, USA or Russia? The answer to him will become clear in the coming months.
