“Frozen” waves in the Saronic Gulf

Greece does not cease to amaze us with an incredible variety of its landscapes, as well as excellent and often paradoxical phenomena, such as “frozen” waves in the saronic bay, which are in an hour of swimming from Athens.

The “frozen” waves are nothing more than currents and shallow water, which created small sand hills in the sea.

No matter how much worried over them the sea, these “waves” remain motionless, as if forever a captured step corridor with white sand, giving the water a wonderful turquoise color.

This rare phenomenon is observed on the shallows between the island of the Aegin and the island of Agister, in the Saronic Gulf, next to the island of Metopi.

It is believed that shallow water around Metopi once had no access to the sea and combined agistan with aegin. For centuries, they were flooded with currents, winds and waves, and today they are an extensive turquoise plain with transparent water, which allows the visitor to enjoy every detail of the seabed, as if he were in a diving mask.
