Corbed of Trade in Greece: 6 out of 10 stores lost income in comparison with last year

Shocking data: 6 out of 10 enterprises in Greece reported the fall of income for 7 months of 2025. Even summer discounts did not save the market – only 1 out of 10 companies showed a sales growth.

Greek trade collapse

The completion of summer sales only confirmed what entrepreneurs have known for a long time: The market collapses. Six out of ten companies reported the fall of income in comparison with 2024, and only one of ten (!) Showed at least some growth.

Disassembled results of the discount season

According to the study Εσεε (Greek Confederation of Trade)almost half of the stores remained disappointed with the results. Even discounts above 30% could not revive demand. 47% of businesses admitted that the level of sales was “from a little to completely unsatisfactory.”

Comment by Stavros Kafunis

Chapter εσεε Savros Kafunis noted: “Six out of ten enterprises recorded a fall in sales – the industry cannot recover from the beginning of the year. Winter, Easter and summer sales failed. The state is obliged to act immediately “.

The numbers speak for themselves

  • 59% of enterprises recorded worst sales than in 2024.
  • Only 10% of companies showed growth, and then – not higher than 10%.
  • 37% of entrepreneurs are ready to keep low prices after the end of the sales.
  • 38% noted the peak of purchasing activity in the first half of August.
  • 74% of businesses reported the growth of costs by more than 10% since the beginning of the year.
  • 67% of entrepreneurs consider the measures to support the state ineffective.

Small business on the verge

The main problems are inflation, cost growth and a drop in population incomes. More than half of the stores noted a decrease in attendance, and only 21% of business owners announced serious satisfaction with the results of the season.

The conclusion is obvious: Discounts stopped workingand without comprehensive decisions, trade awaits an even heavier fall.
