From 2 to 7 euros per cup: how coffee turns into luxury


Coffee in Greece is getting more: even “for a removal” will cost 2.20–2.70 €, and on the beach the price reaches 7 €. The rise in price in world markets +25% pushes up and prices in supermarkets.

Coffee prices new records are beaten, and, according to forecasts, growth will continue. Even the cup of “removal” in a plastic cup costs noticeably less than a drink in a cafe or a traditional coffee shop, but it has already ceased to be a cheap pleasure.

  • In the institution: 4.50 – 6 €
  • On the beach: 4 – 7 €

Even the coffee cooked at home became a tangible article of expenses. After the jump in international prices for 25%, the cost of goods on supermarket shelves increased sharply. According to data Ιελκαin July, in the category “breakfast and drinks”, a rise in price by 8.4%was noted.

Forecasts for the future are gloomy: World production is reduced, demand is growing, and all this pushes the prices up. The upcoming winter promises to be especially heavy for lovers of morning coffee – the habit turns into luxury.
