Meteo.gr Published cards with active foci of fires fixed from satellites to different regions of Greece. Measurements are made using the device VIIRS (Visible Infrand Imaging Radiometer Suite) on satellites Suomi, Noaa-20 And Noaaa-21 At 03:00 local time on August 13.
The maps reflect the heat points, and by their distribution, experts estimated the scale of the distribution of six large fires in the country:
- Hios: about 40,000 STRMEMS (4,000 ha)
- Moireika, Ahai: about 20,000 STRMEMS (2,000 ha)
- Zakinf: about 17,000 STRMEMS (1,700 ha)
- Philippiada: about 18,000 STRMEMS (1,800 ha)
- Paliambela, Perevse: about 2,500 seeks (250 hectares)
- Patras: about 2,000 STRMEMS (200 hectares)
In total about 99 500 seeks or 9950 hectares
Meteo clarifies that the above data Not assessment of the final area of burnt territories. These are only the zones where the fronts of fire spread at the time of observation.
Accurate data on the burned lands will be obtained after processing satellite images of high clearness. Then it will be possible to fix the full area of burnt sections and the presence of surviving “green islands”, which the heat points do not show now.
