DDOS on schedule: how Russian “cyber -partisans” attacked Greece

Operation “Eastwood” Paralyzed more than 100 Noname057 servers (16). But the hacker army of 4,000 Cyberpartizans has already managed to hold large-scale DDOS attacks, including Athens.

German special services went on the offensive: two international orders were issued for arrest members of cybergrouping Noname057 (16)the one that was noted by attacks on Greek objects.

Who is hiding behind cyber prizes

One of the defendants – 38-year-old Russianon the network known as “Darkklogo”. His “fighting girlfriend”, a 21-year-old compatriot, knew under the nickname “Olechochek”. Eastwood operation and international hunting

In 2024, three participants were detained in Spain. And already in July international operation “Eastwood” – The joint work of the special services of 12 countries – put a fat comma: arrested orders, identified the suspects, and more than 100 servers were disconnected. But Greece was only an episode: the main blow was in Germany, Switzerland and other countries. Evidence of serious consequences for Athens has not been identified. However, the very activity of the group caused a resonance against the background of the war in Ukraine.

How DDOS works

DDOS (Distributed Denial of Services) – Attack for “dummies”, available to anyone. The essence is simple: the service is flooded with a virtual flow of requests, supposedly from different countries, and in the end does not withstand the load. In the Darknet, such “services” are sold in bulk and retail. The price depends on what power and duration the client will order the attack.

Army of “volunteers”

According to German special services, Noname057 (16) She managed to recruit more than 4,000 “volunteers” – mainly Russian -speaking. Motivation? Ideology and … cryptocurrency. Report National Cybersecurity Center of Switzerland (October 2023) also indicated the amount: the maximum for participation could be obtained 80,000 rubles – About 850 euros. After the last wave of investigations, about 1,100 supporters of the group received notifications: their activities were recorded, measures were taken, and the legal consequences were the issue of time.
