According to the patient, the surgeon insisted on cash, but he refused. When a few days later the man fell on an operation that began under the leadership of other doctors, complications occurred, and the same surgeon was caused. Arriving in the operating room, he, according to the patient, behaved defiantly and demanded an apology, allegedly because of the refusal to pay. After that, he nevertheless intervened in the operation of the operation, but offensive comments continued later. Moreover, the patient claims that he was threatened, urging him to stop complaining.
The minister immediately ordered an administrative investigation, the start of which is scheduled for today. The materials in the case will also be sent to the prosecutor for the possible initiation of a criminal case. The administrator of the hospital, reportedly, has already been detained to give explanations.
Adonis Georgiadis emphasized that the vast majority of doctors are conscientious, and such cases are rare, but unacceptable exceptions. He stated that if the fact of extortion is confirmed, this doctor will be excluded from the national healthcare system, and a disciplinary proceedings will also be initiated to deprive his medical license.
The Minister recalled that all medical services in the Greece Health Healthcare system are free, and those who wish to earn extra money out of the main working hours can provide. According to him, more than 20% of healthcare employees have already used this right.
“Do not be silent, do not give bribes. If you are faced with extortion, immediately inform. We will not allow such people to destroy trust in the system, ”Georgiadis emphasized.
