The Greek Observatory of Bio -Fingering reports on Mediterranean jellyfish, which returned to the Greek seas: “Let’s enjoy their appearance, respecting nature.”
The first appearance of a known type is already considered a proven fact: quotiloriza, or “jellyfish of fried egg”, or “jellyfish” (cotylorhiza tuberculata).
Mediterranean jellyfish is a harmless look for humansTherefore, people have no reason for concern if they see it by the shore. The size of the cotyloris reaches 40 centimeters in diameter. As a rule, these jellyfish live in subtropical waters, from the surface to a depth of 7 meters. The diet for them is mainly plankton.
Cotylorhiza Tuberculata – Pelagic* View with vague temperature stability. Most often it meets in the summer months, Outbreaks of numbers are observed annually in August-early Septemberespecially in warm and calm waters.
Young individuals Cotylorhiza have a flat shape. From above they are yellow, white below, without characteristic orange, white and purple tentacles. If you notice them, take a picture and publish your observations on platforms such as Inaturalist.
And you knew who eats jellyfish and how it happens? Look:
*Pelagic organisms – plants or animals that live in pelagials, that is, in the thickness or on the surface of the water.
