New Customs Code gives a “sigh of relief” for freelancers and self -employed professionalsliving and operating in small settlements of Greece.
In the section “Other provisions”, a special norm was added, which “levels” the position of professionals in small villages, which, even if they are at a short distance or have a large population, do not have the right to reduce test income only because “Kallicratis” I included them in large communities.
This measure concerns income that receives the current year Free professionalsthat engage in activities and have the main place of residence in villages with a population of 500 to 1,500 inhabitants.
This norm is prepared on the initiative Deputy Minister of National Economics and Finance George Kotsires In cooperation with Minister Kiriakos Pierrakakis, As a response to reasonable requests of citizens.
For example, a taxpayer in a small village in Imatia, with a population of only 562 people, until this year lost the right to reduce test income half, since this village is administratively subordinate to a large Dima Alexandria Imatia.
On the contrary, in a neighboring village with 1450 residents, another professional receives this discount in full, because administratively it makes up a municipal community, whose common population does not exceed 1,500 inhabitants.
Now, thanks to the new provisions, the village with 562 residents will also be able to take advantage of a decrease in test income by 50%.
According to the new norm, all small villages of the country (with the exception of those that are in A Attica regionwhich was originally excluded from this discount) will be considered in the tax plan on equal terms.
Professionals They will receive the same decrease in test income (50%), regardless of whether they are part of a wider municipal community or not, which will put an end to injustice based solely on the method of organizing the country’s administrative structure.
The new norm will enter into force with the submission of tax returns for 2025 (since the submission of current declarations has already been completed) and actually supports the stability of local communities, since so far a decrease in test income has only concerned villages that are included in the municipal communities with the population of up to 1,500 residents.
As a result, residents of villages with the same or even smaller population (even neighboring among themselves) were subjected to less favorable treatment and were taxed on double income due to the total population of the municipal community in which they are administratively included.
