In Spain from mid-May to July 1180 people died due to extreme heat

Most often, elderly people over 65 years old and women become victims of heat.

The number of those who died in Spain (1180) in just two months of 2025, from May 16 to July 13, many times the number of deaths registered for the same period in 2024 is 70 people.

Most of the victims were over 65, more than half of them are women, reports Cretapost.gr. The most affected areas are Galicia, La Riokha, Asturia and Kantabria. Previously, in the north of the country where they are all located, the temperature in the summer was not so ruthless. However, in recent years, the situation has changed.

As in other countries of Western Europe, in recent weeks in Spain, the temperature often exceeds 40 ° C. According to the Institute of Health of Charles III, the number of deaths increased sharply in the first week of July.

During these two months, 76 extraordinary warnings were announced in different regions of the country, while last year there were no such warnings.

Last summer, for reasons associated with high temperatures, 2191 deaths were recorded. On July 9, a scientific analysis showed that in 12 European cities for a ten -day heat wave, which lasted until July 2, 2300 people died from the heat.

However, it is unclear whether scientists from the Imperial College of London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in their study were used by the same methodology as the Spanish Institute.

The heat praises other European countries, including Greece:
