50 days for an agreement on Ukraine – a lot or little

US President Donald Trump demanded that Russia have entered into an agreement on peace in Ukraine within 50 days.

Otherwise, the US authorities will introduce secondary duties in 100% against trading partners of the Russian Federation. With such words, President Donald Trump performed on Monday, July 14, at a meeting in the White House with the Secretary General of NATO Mark Rutte:

“If we do not have an agreement within 50 days, there will be secondary tariffs. We are going to introduce secondary duties if we do not conclude a deal in 50 days. And they will be 100%. I use trade for many purposes. It is great to stop wars.”

According to Trump, still in negotiations about the world in Ukraine, including directly between him and Vladimir Putin, “constant conversations” reign:

“And then the rockets fly to Kyiv and kill people. This should stop.”

The US President added that he was “disappointed in Putin”, he hoped to make a deal with him a few months ago. When asked by journalists about whether the United States plan to put the Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, Trump replied that this will happen “within a couple of days”:

“We have one country that has 17 Patriot complexes preparing to be sent. They will not need them. Therefore, we are going to agree on where these 17 are most of them. It will go to the side of the war.”

According to him, several countries that have these complexes will participate in the transaction with Patriot. They “are going to exchange and replace” them, said the American president. He noted that this work will coordinate Rutte.

Previously, Trump stated that Washington is going to sell Patriot systems to Europeans for their subsequent delivery to Kyiv. “Ukraine will really receive a huge amount of military equipment: both air defense, and missiles, and ammunition,” Rutte told Rutte on July 14 in the White House.

Thesis about what Trump said:

• delay of duties – the introduction of tariffs against the Russian Federation and its partners is postponed by 50 days, during which time Ukraine and Russia must agree on a “deal”;
• 17 Patriot complexes at the expense of Europe, some will arrive in Ukraine “in the coming days.” He made it clear that not everyone would get to Ukraine. How much in the end is unknown. But 17 pieces are a very large number. Perhaps we are talking about 17 launchers (2-4 batteries). For comparison: Germany has only 6 of them now. Ukraine operated on 6-7 batteries;
• In general, Trump chose a calm tone – called for negotiations, but criticized Putin for continuing the war in Ukraine and bombing of cities;
• Trump did not promise supplies of other types of weapons, but the American media write that the United States can sell NATO members of a low-range missile, howitzer and missiles of the air-air-air-range class that will be transferred to Ukraine;
• 50 days delay for negotiations coincide with the 60 -day offensive promised by Putin to the boundaries of four regions. In fact, Trump gives Putin the time to check his plans and continue to build a dialogue;
• If Ukraine strengthens the position at the expense of the weapons sent, this will weaken the initiative of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the massive attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Russian cities can provoke retaliatory attacks, which Trump clearly does not want. Therefore, the achievement of agreements in the near future would be in the interests of all parties.
• The United States plan to sell NATO countries in the amount of about $ 10 billion, which will be subsequently transferred to Ukraine, in particular long -range missiles.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump confirmed the agreement with NATO on the sale of weapons that will be delivered to Ukraine. He said that the states will sell the “best” military equipment for “billions” of dollars.

An informed Axios source said that the United States will sell weapons allies in the amount of about $ 10 billion in the first wave. According to the portal, we are talking about such weapons as air defense, artillery shells and “high -range missiles that can reach the depth of the territory of Russia.”
