The modernization of airports in Greece is just around the corner. The preparation of a tender for servicing infrastructure in them is completed.
Improving airport conditions
The Greek aviation service initiates system steps to modernize state objects. Greece Civil Aviation Office (Υπα) implements a strategic plan to improve the state of infrastructure and services at the airports of the country. For a long time, these facilities have experienced problems with maintenance and operation, and now consistent measures are being taken to modernize them.
As part of this initiative at the final stage, there is a large tender launch for the provision of comprehensive management of aviation infrastructure facilities throughout the country.
According to official information from υπα, the tender will cover operational response to technical malfunctions, repair work of buildings, as well as maintenance of electromechanical and hydraulic systems. This will be implemented in the format of a frame contract. In addition, planned maintenance is provided in those areas where there is no constant presence of experts υπα. The project budget is about 20 million euros for a period of four years, with the possibility of extending for another year.
Additionally revised sanitary service standards at state airports. In the near future, it is planned to approve new, more stringent conditions for ensuring the quality of cleaning.
The procedure for conducting tenders and the selection of contractors based on financial and technical criteria should be completed by the end of this year
Current measures to improve conditions at the airport
Until the full launch of the infrastructure management system in υπα, operational measures are implemented to improve the quality of the service and the appearance of objects.
Iraklion airport. A contract was signed for the modernization of sanitary units in the departure zone. The work has already begun, and a similar reconstruction in the arrival area is planned for the near future. The cleaning budget is also increased, which allowed to hire additional employees. Daily sanitary inspections are now under the control of a special commission.
Milos airport. In the zones of arrival and departure, the styling of a new gender was completed, which improved both the visual perception of the terminal and its functionality. The total project cost was 26,089.60 euros, while the materials were provided thanks to the participation of six local companies. An installed defibrillator donated by the air carrier is installed. Additionally, 30 defibrillers will be purchased within the new tender for accommodation at the country's airports. Also completed work on the repair and painting of the dispatch tower.
Airport Naksosa. The waiting area near the terminal has been improved – the canopies were built and benches were installed, providing comfort in hot weather. Also completed work on the construction of the toilet for people with special needs and a system of sound alert has been introduced. The financing of cleaning services has been increased – the decision has already been approved, and the document is in agreement in the Accounts Chamber.
On the runway, it was cleaned of rubber deposits after planting, which improved adhesion and safety. The assessment of the state of sanitary zones in all airports has been completed. All repair work will be combined into a single tender, the implementation of which will begin in the winter.
“The state of toilets reflects the level of culture and hospitality, and therefore their modernization is a priority for our service. We strive to ensure that the final impression of a tourist from the country is as positive as all his stay in Greece, ”said Head υπα Georgios Saunatsos.
Visits of the leadership υπα and upcoming inspections
Mr. Saunatsos has already begun a series of visits to places, including the airports of Ikaria and Lemnos, where the leadership of civil aviation has not appeared for more than two decades (!).
The next step will be the inspection in the summer period of a number of certified airports, including Milos, Kitira, Janin and Siros, as well as at the airports of Kastoria, Kozani, Apipalei, Araksos and Castelorizo. These measures are aimed at strengthening control, establishing contact with local administrations and accelerating the modernization of civil aviation facilities.
