In Kuala Lumpur, a personal meeting of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was held.
The negotiations lasted almost an hour and took place as part of the ASEAN events, where the heads of foreign policy departments of the two countries exchanged views on bilateral relations.
Prior to this meeting, the laurels and Rubio were already in contact by phone, and the first full-time communication took place in Riyadh in February of this year, when the parties expressed their readiness to move towards normalizing bilateral relations.
Version of the Russian Federation:
- The parties confirmed the mutual attitude to search for peaceful interchanges of conflict situations;
- Participants noted interest in restoring the Russian-American economic and humanitarian cooperation, renewing direct air traffic and normalizing the work of diplomatic mission;
- The dialogue will be continued.
US version:
- Rubio said that Trump was disappointed with the lack of greater flexibility from Russia;
- The United States wants to work out a clear road map to the end of the war in Ukraine;
- The United States is unhappy that progress is slow and everything is difficult;
- Rubio heard from Lavrov new Russian proposals at the end of the war, which did not sound before. Rubio will convey these ideas to Trump.
“I think this is a new approach. Again, I will say: I would not call it something that guarantees the world, but this is the concept that we will transmit to the president today. “
As you can see, Trump threatens the transition to the use of a sanctions club. In response, the Russian Federation makes new proposals, expresses the willingness to continue negotiations with Ze, but stands on its conditions for the final end of the war.
