For tourists from Russia, North Korea built and opened a fashionable resort (video)

The North Korean media reports the opening of a large beach resort, where tourists from the Russian Federation are waiting for this month.

Designed for 20,000 people, the Kalma tourist zone in Vonsan on Tuesday on July 1 accepted internal tourists, says the publication of the summer, but this month the Russian will arrive. Yonhap South Korean agency reports that on July 7, the first group of tourists from Russia will visit the resort.

The Ministry of Association of South Korea predicts that the activities of the resort will gradually expand, including the flow of Russian tourists will increase.

The DPRK leader Kim Jong -un, especially in the first years of his reign, showed great interest in the development of the country's tourism industry, paying special attention to the coastal resorts.

A week ago, Kim said that this object will become one of the largest achievements of 2025. He promised that North Korea would build other large -scale tourist zones as soon as possible.

True, Seoul predicts that, given the isolation of North Korea, the number of foreign tourists in a fashionable resort will be very limited. The Ministry of Association of South Korea notes:

“It is assumed that tourists will travel through Pyongyang, and the number of visitors can be limited to about 170 people a day.”

North Korea considers tourism as one of the main sources of foreign currency. Perhaps they noticed in the ministry, Pyongyang received assistance at the end of the construction of the resort from Russia, in exchange for support in the war against Ukraine.

Recall that during the pandemia Covid-19, North Korea closed its borders for tourists. However, even before that, the number of foreign tourists remained limited. According to data published by traveling companies, about 5,000 tourists from the west annually visited North Korea. A significantly larger number of tourists was allowed from China.

Last year, North Korea for the first time since the beginning of the pandemia allowed the entry of Russian tourists, and in February of this year it allowed Western travel companies to resume work. It is still unknown whether tourists from China returned.
