During the explosion of a huge meteor in the sky over the American state of Georgia, his fragments fell on a residential building in the district of Henry.

According to NASA, the meteor appeared at an altitude of about 77 kilometers above the Oxford state of Georgia, moved in the southwestern direction and broke up into fragments at an altitude of about 43 kilometers above the West Foreste. The destruction of the cosmic object has released energy equivalent to an explosion of 20 tons of TNT.

A powerful energy surge activated geostationary lightning sensors aboard the Goes satellites of the National Administration of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (Noaa).

Astrophysicists describe a similar bright meteor as a “fiery ball”, which with an explosion breaks up at the entrance to the atmosphere. Every year, dozens of such fire balls are fixed around the world, but it is usually impossible to see them during the day. The US Geological Service confirmed the lack of seismic activity, explaining the tremors exclusively atmospheric shock wave.

Experts clarified that the fall of the meteorite has no connection with the current meteor stream of June Botids, which continues during this period. The metal composition of the meteorite, as evidenced by its bright turquoise color and the orange tail during burning, indicates its asteroid origin.

Emergency Situations Office in Henry, where the wreckage fell, is investigating a message about the “stone”, which struck the roof of the house, went through the ceiling and stuck in the floor. Experts confirm the possibility that some fragments of a meteorite could reach the surface of the Earth. Residents are recommended to report any suspicious fragments of the meteorite and avoid contact with them due to potential danger.

This event became a rare case when a meteorite fall led to physical damage to property. Most meteors burn in the atmosphere without reaching the Earth, but this case convincingly recalls that space objects can pose a real threat if their size and composition allow you to go through the atmosphere.
