What did Zelensky and Merz agree in Berlin

On May 28, in Berlin, the Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Mertz accepted the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. The main results of the visit:

Germany will finance the production of long -range missiles in Ukraine, strengthen the support of Kyiv, Mertz will not allow the entry of the Northern Streams.

Mertz accepted Zelensky with military honors in Berlin, after which negotiations between the leaders of the two countries were negotiated in the department of the federal chancellor. As previously reported by the official representative of the Government of Germany Stefan Cornelius, the main topic of the visit will be the “German support of Ukraine and the efforts to stop fire” in the war with Russia.

Mertz said that the war of Russia against Ukraine brought Berlin and Kyiv closer. The parties agreed to strengthen partnerships in politics and economics, and resume German-Ukrainian government consultations.

According to the Chancellor of Germany, Germany will support Ukraine in obtaining a large -range weapon. In particular, Berlin finances the joint production of long -range missiles in Ukraine without restrictions on their use, the corresponding memorandum is ready to sign the defense ministers of the two countries.

Mertz emphasized that the details of such assistance would not be revealed. He also refused to comment on the possible transmission of the German Taurus winged missiles to Ukraine.

Frederick Mertz promised that Germany would increase pressure on Russia, which has been continuing the war against Ukraine for the fourth year. Berlin does this, including in order to open the way to negotiations on a peaceful settlement, he explained.

In addition, the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany promised that Berlin would “do everything possible” to prevent the resumption of the operation of the Northern Stream-1 gas pipeline and the start of the Northern Stream-2, destroyed as a result of the explosion. The goal is “weakening of the Moscow military machine.”

Vladimir Zelensky, in turn, thanked Germany and its leadership for help, noting that Ukraine and Germany have reached new agreements on investments in the defense sector.

Zelensky also called on NATO to invite Ukraine to the upcoming summit in June, since the refusal to do this, according to him, would mean the victory of the President of the Russian Federation over the alliance.

In the afternoon, the President of Ukraine met with Germany President Francom-Valter Steinmeier in the official residence of the head of state by the Palace of Belvu.

Before the visit of Zelensky to Berlin in the Party Party and in the opposition, they called on the federal chancellor to decide on the supply of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine. In particular, this was stated by the CDS expert on foreign policy Roderich Kizvetter.

Last time, Zelensky came to Berlin in October 2024 for negotiations with the predecessor of Merz, Olaf Sholts. Friedrich Mertz, a short time after his office, at the beginning of May visited Kyiv along with French President Emmanuel Macron and the Prime Ministers of Great Britain and Poland, Kirmer Senalier and Donald Tupskoy.
