On Tuesday, May 20, the Polish authorities charged a man who is suspected of helping Russian diplomatic services to kill the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.
Pavel K. was arrested in April 2024, he faces a prison imprisonment for up to eight years. According to the prosecutor's office, the arrested announced his readiness to assist the military intelligence of the Russian Federation and contacted the Russians who participated in the war in Ukraine. The prosecutor’s statement says:
“His actions were aimed, inter alia, to assist the planning by the Russian special services of a possible attempt on the life of the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky.”
The investigation showed that the responsibilities that were supposedly entrusted with the accused included the collection and provision of security information at the airport of the Uyshuv-Yasenka in the southeast of Poland, reports Reuters agency.
Poland, which is the center of Western military supplies to Ukraine, states that it became the main goal of Russian spies, accusing Moscow and its ally of Belarus of trying to destabilize the situation. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied these accusations.
Attempts to attempt on the President of Ukraine have been committed repeatedly. Zelensky spoke about one of them and those who died in the president’s office in an interview with The Guardian:
