The Kremlin press release also lists the experts approved by the president for negotiations with Ukraine. Among them is the first deputy chief of the information department of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, Alexander Zorin, deputy chief of the Presidential Department of the Russian Federation in the state policy in the humanitarian sphere Elena Tyreevskaya, director of the Second Department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexei Polishchuk, as well as the deputy head of the Main Directorate of the International Military Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Defense Viktor Shevtsov.
“From the United States, he is expected to come to negotiations in Istanbul, Secretary of State Marko Rubio, Trump's special supporters Stephen Witkoff and Keith Kellogue,” the agency writes the online publication. According to CNN, Rubio, who accompanied Donald Trump on a trip to the countries of the Persian Gulf region, has already arrived in Antalya.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on Vladimir Putin to personally come to negotiations with him. “We will do everything so that this meeting with Putin takes place. Only he can decide on the ceasefire,” the Ukrainian leader said.
On the night of May 15, Reuters reported with reference to an unnamed Ukrainian official that Vladimir Zelensky is “in the way” in Ankara.
Today's meeting with representatives of the Russian Federation in Istanbul concerns only the discussion of a possible 30-day ceasefire, writes WSJ. Trump decided not to go to Turkey after refusing Putin to come there.
